Preliminary plans are now being made for an Easter expedition to Simons Hill to recreate the “gliding camps” of the 1950’s. Whilst the strip that was flown from then is no longer available, the hill remains and a new strip is probably long enough for either aerotow or winch launching.

Camping facilities and accommodation, in the shearer’s quarters, will be available at Irishman Creek Station, together with cooking facilities. Flying will also be possible on  Mount Mary which will be used if the wind is not suitable for Simons Hill.

As a “Vintage Kiwi” event entry will be limited to “VK” members with wooden gliders, with priority being given to the older types. If you would like to be included, if of course the event goes ahead, please let me know.

We will be the guests of  Jane Stevenson and Dennis Fastier at Simons Hill and Gillian and Justin Wills at Irishmans Creek all of whom have been most helpful and enthusiastic during the early planning.

This will be a major event for “Vintage Kiwi” and we will aim to get the maximum international post event publicity for it.
