The very first VK Rally to be held off-site a glider field and without an official host club. A very successful event, ready to become another tradition in the row of North Island mini meets. Held at Raglan airfield on the rugged West Coast in November. The date carefully chosen between the battles of the GNZ competions, X+country courses and other gliding events. All accomodation was booked on beforehand, and to make sure not to be grounded (or stranded?) we made sure to have plenty of towing power. Big big thanks we owe to John Pheasant with his Tiger Moth BFF, towing the Ka-6 and Ka-8 without effort. John flew in from Tauranga with his son in law and both stated for the weekend. Also big thanks to Andrew Hope, flying in from Ardmore with fresh tow rating and his tow hook equiped Citabria. And of course million thanks to Kevin Wisneski, flying in the Wilga from Taranaki, with a Blanik on tow. Friday night Murray Wardell held one of brilliant talks about flying at the West Coast, and assisted by projector and big screen he kept everyone in his spell til the late hours. Saturday night saw a BBQ in classic VK style. Flying was something different. New site, new sights. the weather was brilliant as well, I lost count of the launches and hours but they were a lot! Bernie Massey flew in with his Sting, The Norfolk Road club pilots did quite a few trial flights as well. The airfield is conveniently located just beside the very nice camp site, and just a 2 minute walk away from centre town Raglan.
